An individual who contaminated treats with sedative and gave them to minors at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two children both nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and a grown-up became sick at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Yet, he disputed one particular crime he was facing, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.
The accused was kept in jail ahead of a further hearing on late November.
'Treat game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, described Ruben's offending to the judicial body.
She explained his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer camp which he operated.
The man conducted a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to eat sweets "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings the man had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She explained the man had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had suspicions in summer 2025.
The legal representative stated further: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about what was going on, justifiably.
"They chose" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor stated materials including lubricant, petroleum jelly and syringes were discovered, and his stepchild contacted the law enforcement about his worries.
She explained the man continued to engage in the "treat game" with six youngsters that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the following morning.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she added.
The oversight body, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, had stated that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the situation.
The prosecutor said the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the stepson called the authorities a second time.
She explained Ruben then played the "sweet game" in a space of five children.
