Government Official States Ministry of Defence Investigating Potential Threat from Chinese Cars, with Staff Instructed to Avoid Secret Talk in Cars.

An defense official has confirmed that the MoD is actively looking into the potential threats posed by Chinese-made cars, and personnel have been advised to refrain from talking about classified matters in any vehicles.

Safety Advice for MoD Personnel

In a recent appearance on LBC, Luke Pollard commented on reports that Ministry of Defence officials have been told not to talk about classified information while riding in Chinese vehicles.

The minister explained that the MoD is “investigating” cars from China within its fleets, however stressed that safety is a issue in all modern cars.

We have a fleet of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
But regardless of if you’re traveling in a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, our instruction to our people is not to plug Ministry of Defence devices into their vehicle, not to have discussions at a secret level in any car, because of the growing risks of surveillance that are present in all vehicle, to restrict those secret talks in secure locations. This is a prudent and reasonable thing for anyone worried about safety.

When it was put to him that it would be prudent for the MoD to cease using all cars from China, Pollard replied: ‘That’s precisely what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Broader Security Background

This announcement follows claims from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the presence of multi-purpose shutdown mechanisms in Chinese-made buses, which could allow China to disable buses and bring disruption to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russia intelligence vessel was reportedly shining laser beams at RAF pilots, labeled a “extremely risky” action by government representatives.

The wider security situation highlights the importance of robust measures and vigilance in all aspects of government operations, from vehicle usage to communication habits.
